Istanbul Beykent University Senate Decision on the Educational Status of Students Affected by the Earthquake Disaster

The educational status of our students who have been affected by the earthquake disaster which occurred in our country on 06/02/2023 was discussed.

Resulting from the Kahramanmaraş epicentered earthquake occurring on 6 February 2023, directly impacting ten of our provinces, and within the scope of the press release and official letter numbered 10573 issued by the Presidency of the Board of Higher Education on 09/02/2023: 

1- The start of the 2022-2023 academic year spring semester will be temporarily postponed until further notice from the Board of Higher Education. 

2- Until further notice from the Board of Higher Education during the 2022-2023 academic year, Term I, Term II and Term III courses of the Faculty of Medicine have been suspended; Term IV, Term V and Term VI students will continue their education and training face-to-face beginning 13/02/2023; students in the earthquake zone whose families are affected, and those volunteering their help have been granted the right to make-up exams and special exceptions concerning class attendance records.  

3- Until further notice from the Board of Higher Education during the 2022-2023 academic year, the decision has been taken to suspend Term I, Term II and Term III courses of the Faculty of Dentistry, and to continue face-to-face Clinical Practice courses of Term IV and Term V students, beginning 13/03/2023.  

4- Having already begun its spring semester education, the School of Foreign Languages will suspend its educational activities until 20 February 2023; its updated academic calendar as attached. 

5- The single-course exam to graduate, published in the academic calendar, will be held on 17 February 2023. However, students residing or students with families residing in the earthquake-affected provinces, and students working voluntarily/on-duty in the disaster area who are not able to take the single-course exam to graduate being held on 17 February 2023 will be given the right to take a single-course exam to graduate at a later date to be determined and announced. 

6- Students residing or students with families residing in the earthquake-affected provinces, and students working voluntarily/on-duty in the disaster area who could not complete the 2022-2023 academic year spring semester course registration process during registration week, the necessary procedures regarding course selection will be carried out upon petition/application or e-mail in the upcoming days. 

7- Students residing or students with families residing in the earthquake-affected provinces, and students working voluntarily/on-duty in the disaster area who could not start their education in the 2022-2023 academic year spring semester, special exemptions in terms of attendance and quiz make-up will be facilitated for 6 weeks following the start date of the course.  

8- Students residing or students with families residing in the earthquake-affected provinces, and students working voluntarily/on-duty in the disaster area, if requested, academic units will facilitate the freezing of students’ registration for the 2022-2023 academic year spring term.

9- For students residing or students with families residing in the earthquake-affected provinces, and students working voluntarily/on-duty in the disaster area, requests of graduate students who have exams such as thesis defense, comprehensive exam, and tik committee will be evaluated by the Graduate School Administrative Board to provide the necessary accommodation.
