Asst. Prof. Dr. Tilda Tanilyan Sürer, one of our academic staff members, attended the information meeting on the insurance sector.

The Istanbul Chamber of Commerce (ICOC) organised the ‘Internship, Employment Opportunities, and Sectoral Information Meeting in the Insurance Sector’ on 22 April 2025 to support the sustainable economic and social development of our country and to help meet the demand for a qualified workforce.

ITO, which undertakes initiatives to meet the need for a qualified labour force essential for the sustainable economic and social development of our country and its position in global competition, continues its efforts to align vocational and technical education with the expectations of local, national, and international labour markets. In line with these efforts, ICOC supports initiatives aimed at equipping sector employees with the necessary knowledge, skills, and competences.

The ‘Internship, Employment Opportunities, and Sectoral Information Meeting in the Insurance Sector’ was held on Tuesday, 22 April 2025, from 14:00 to 17:30 in the 4th Floor Assembly Hall of the Eminönü Central Building, attended by Asst. Prof. Dr. Tilda Tanilyan Sürer. The meeting was attended by students and teachers from vocational high schools specialising in insurance across Istanbul.

The opening speech was delivered by Salih Sami Atılgan, Member of the Board of Directors of ICOC, and the session was chaired by Mehmet Özgür Yılmaz, Member of the ICOC Assembly and Chairman of the Insurance Professional Committee. Among the speakers were Işıl Konya, Head of the Intermediaries and Special Institutions Department at the Insurance and Private Pension Regulation and Supervision Agency; Seda Uslu, Human Resources Manager at the Association of Insurance, Reinsurance and Pension Companies of Türkiye; Şebnem Yalçınkaya, Director of the Turkish Insurance Institute Foundation; Gökhan Ay, Director of the Insurance Training Centre; and Levent Korkut, Chairman of the Executive Committee of Insurance Agencies.

During the meeting, academics from universities were also invited to provide their evaluations. Asst. Prof. Dr. Tilda Tanilyan Sürer, Head of the Banking and Insurance Programme at Istanbul Beykent University, also delivered a speech in this context. In the speech, Dr. Sürer outlined Istanbul Beykent University’s approach and vision for insurance education, highlighting the opportunities offered by the university, the content of the Banking and Insurance Programme, and its connections with the industry. She also provided brief information about career support available to students.

In his speech, Session Chairman Özgür Yılmaz said, ‘In order to support vocational education, training, and our students, we brought together the students and teachers of all vocational high schools specialising in insurance in Istanbul, along with the esteemed lecturers from university Insurance Departments, through our Istanbul Chamber of Commerce Insurance Vocational Committee. I hope that our consultation meeting, held with a high level of participation, has helped to shed some light for the younger generations. Insurance is a profession. Our profession will endure — there will always be a need for insurers.’

The meeting, which was met with great interest, concluded after the speeches.
