Turkish Proficiency Examination and CertificateThe Turkish Proficiency Exam is administered to measure the language proficiency of individuals learning Turkish as a foreign language, and prepared in accordance with the definitions of proficiency set in the text of the Common European Framework of Reference for Language Teaching. Furthermore, the exam is administered to measure individuals’ level of basic Turkish knowledge.CONTENT AND STAGES OF THE EXAMTurkish Proficiency Exam consists of five stages, and each stage carries 20 points in total. The overall duration of the exam is 165 minutes.Reading Skills Exam: This exam is administered to assess whether the students understand what they have read. The duration of the exam is 40 minutes.Listening Skills Exam: This exam is administered to assess whether the students understand what they have listened to. The duration of the exam is 40 minutes.General Turkish Knowledge: This exam is administered to assess the students’ general Turkish knowledge. The duration of the exam is 35 minutes.Writing (Composition) Exam: Students are given three topics and asked to write a composition on one of the three topics. This exam is administered to assess the students’ language skills in writing. The duration of the exam is 35 minutes. Speaking Exam: This exam consists of two parts, free speaking and conversation. The time allocated for free speaking is 5 minutes, and the time allocated for conversation is 10 minutes. Students must achieve more than 50% success (corresponding to a minimum score of 11 out of 20) in each stage of the exam. Candidates scoring between 55-70 in total are given a B2 Certificate, those scoring 71-85 in total are given a C1 Certificate, and those scoring between 86-100 in total are given a C2 Turkish Proficiency Certificate.
